EMC Component Modeling and System-Level Simulations of Power Converters: AC Motor Drives

EMC simulations are an indispensable tool to analyze noise propagation in power converters and assess the best filtering options. In this paper, we first show how set up of then demonstrate their use on example industrial AC motor drive. Broadband models key converter components reviewed combined into a circuit model complete setup enabling detailed analysis. The approach is demonstrated by analyzing conducted emissions 75 kW driving 45 motor. Based simulations, critical impedances, dominant propagation, most efficient filter component location within system identified. For analyzed system, maxima caused resonances long cable can be accurately predicted as functions type, length, layout cable. common-mode at LISN shown have contribution magnetic coupling between noisy side input All predictions validated measurements highlight benefit simulation-based analysis design.
